MERUDANDA VASHTI

Herbal Spinal Treatment

Merudanda is the Sanskrit word for spine and Vashti means oil bath. In Ayurveda, it is believed that there is a cure for every single ailment and its consequent complications. This particular oil treatment for the vertebral column is considered to have a strong healing and curing potential.

For backaches and other spine-related ailments and injuries, this therapeutic treatment is considered to have internal cleansing properties. These are brought on by a combination of ayurvedic oils, massage techniques, and a steam bath.

How Merudanda Vashti Works

The process of Merudanda Vashti is very similar to the process of Netra Tarpana. Medicated and aromatic oils are poured on the entire spine region within the boundary of a paste made of a mixture of herbal powder and water. The temperature of these oils is kept at an optimum level. After the application of this oil bath, a massage is employed on the Marma points to activate the vital energy and promote relaxation.

This entire process takes approximately forty-five minutes to one hour and thirty minutes for completion. A calming period of exercise follows the massage, which allows the activated vital energy to travel through all the channels to reach other marma points in the body.
