Sleeping
After a heavy meal, you generally feel sluggish. However, taking a nap immediately after eating is not a good idea. This habit is known to cause indigestion and increases the risk of obesity and heart disease. The best practice is to sleep at least 2 -3 hours after you have had your meal.
Bathing
Taking a shower after a heavy meal is also not a healthy thing to do. It interrupts the digestion process and diverts the blood flow from the digestive tract to other parts of the body. This makes it difficult for the body to digest the meal you ate. What you can do is wait for at least 30 minutes after having your food before going for your bath.
Drinking Tea
If you like to have a cup of tea as part of your meal or just after it, you need to stop. Tea leaves are known to be acidic and drinking tea right after a meal can hinder the digestion process. The acid in the tea tends to harden the protein content present in your food, thus making it harder for the body to digest it. Health experts suggest staying off tea one hour before and after your meals.
Smoking
Smoking is detrimental to your long term health. People who are in the habit of having a smoke after their meal need to know that the tobacco present in the cigarette can block the absorption of vitamins and minerals from the foods consumed. The best option is to stop smoking altogether. But if this is difficult, avoid smoking for at least 20 minutes after your last meal.
